Summer isn’t my favorite season, but it is oh so fun! There is no denying that the sunshine makes life feel so much lighter which just puts a smile on your face! And does anyone else just feel better with a tan, or is that just me?
As much fun as the anticipation of summer always feels, I am usually letting it speed past me without truly enjoying it, and then by the end of summer I find myself looking back with regrets. Can you relate?
This year, I’m planning to avoid both of those things completely.
So here we go, a letter to my summer self…maybe this will resonate with you too.

Hey you!
I see you with your freckles popping and a planner full of fun adventures. Let’s make this the best summer yet!
There’s no reason not to.
This is the summer we grow stronger.
This is the summer we really just go for it.
This is the summer we live freely- we won’t say no too often.
We will go outside and breathe in all the incredible smells and sounds of life outside when the weather is lovely and we will remember all the incredible blessings of this life.
This is the summer that things change.
This is the summer we take fun pictures and not feel sick to our stomachs looking at the result.
Self acceptance and love is a journey I am continuously on…this is the summer that journey makes great strides.
This is the summer we go to the beach and wear swimmies freely in front of our friends and family without feeling completely embarrassed. We will love and be proud of our body, because we know we have been working harrrrd to exercise and eat well, even if our body still doesn’t look like we want it to.
This is the summer we wear what we want and dress for the person in the mirror- not just what’s trendiest or ‘in’, but what we feel best in.
This is the summer that we let our guard down to all the possibilities of fun, without thinking about how we appear to others.
This is the summer we adventure and travel and have new experiences and soak it all in.
This is the summer we chase the dreams on our heart and the path God has us on.
This is the summer I will keep plants alive inside and outside. (so far so good!)
This is the summer we won’t be so worried about making everyone else happy, that we forget to make ourselves happy. This summer we will allow our own happiness to be a priority.
This is the summer we will embrace not just the sunny season, but the season of life we are in of contentedness and stillness.
This is the summer our family will spend more time outside and less time inside in front of screens.
This summer we will not dream too much of football season and fall fun, but live in the moments of sunshine.
This is the summer we will truly laugh to our core and make the best memories with family and friends.
This is the summer we love to our fullest, and that includes loving the person in the mirror too.
This is the summer for everything we have been holding back from for so long.
This is the summer we will look back on with no regrets.
This is the summer we will truly live.
Sounds incredible, doesn’t it?
Let’s do it then!!
Happy Summer!
All the love,
I pray the person reading this has the absolute best summer. I pray they embrace every second of sunshine, sweat, salty air, and stillness. I pray that they can feel free to love the person in the mirror- the person You created them to be and love the one body You gave them. I pray that in this season the person reading this grows closer to You, Lord and finds so much peace in walking with You daily. Thank you Lord for the blessing of another summer. Amen.
