How to Be a Light and Blessing to Others

Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly being a blessing to others and shining the light God has given us all. Until I became aware of that, and started noticing all the little ways (and big ways) we can impact others, I had no idea that I personally had the ability to be a blessing and a light to others every day of my life. Crazy to think we can have that kind of an impact on people, right?

I’m sure we probably think about being a blessing in our spouse’s life and the lives of friends and families, but have you ever thought about being a blessing to every person you come in contact with? Me either, until about a year ago.

I honestly can’t remember if it was a sermon, a song, or something I read somewhere on Pinterest- but it completely changed my way of thinking, praying and living. Since then, every day I wake up and pray to be a blessing in someone’s life and shine the light God has given me, and all throughout the day my wheels are turning about how I can try to do that.

I hope that after reading this post you have another way of thinking about your daily prayer and personal life and become aware of just how big of an impact you can have on others! None of us are perfect, but if we try to focus on the ways we can help and love others, just as God does, then we can grow closer to Him every day!

Here are some simple ways I have found to be a blessing:

SMILE

A simple smile can change everything. Whenever you come in contact with others try to be as smiley and cheery as possible. For some, that may be the only smile they see that day. How awesome would it be if it were your smile that turned someone’s day around? Sounds like a blessing to me!

BE THE LIGHT

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." -Matthew 5:16 NIV

To me, being a blessing to others is the same as being the light. Two phrases you will probably see me use interchangeably and ALOT since this is my sole purpose in starting this blogging journey.

God has blessed us all with a light to shine unto others to be a blessing in their lives. God gave us all unique gifts and talents to use for His glory – which is how we can best be a blessing to others.

What are you really really good at? Now, how can you use that to be a blessing to someone else? That’s exactly how you let your light shine!

PRAY

My favorite way to be a blessing. Prayer doesn’t have to be you alone, eyes closed, palms together, in complete solitude. I fully believe I can stop and pray anytime, anywhere and God will be listening. Reminds me of one of my new favorite songs (I’ll link it here for ya).

Here’s a challenge for you to start out the week- anytime you see, read, or hear someone or something in need of prayer, give it to God right then! Pray for the person or situation in that moment and know that God is listening. Do this for one week and not only will you feel closer to God at all times, but you will know you are able to be a blessing to others even if you aren’t coming in contact with them at all. Can I get an amen?

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Be a good person, and always choose kindness over any kind of rudeness or negativity. Some people expect the worst from others, so be a blessing and be kind instead. It may not be easy with every person you come across, but showing kindness towards someone is a way to be a blessing. Show others you have a heart for Jesus!

LESS OF OURSELVES, MORE OF HIM

Something I have to repeat to myself constantly. When we focus more on God and His goodness and His plans, then we rely less on our own selfish decisions, wants and needs. When we get caught up in ourselves and lose sight of Him- we aren’t able to be a light for others. The answer is always to focus more on God, and less on ourselves.

REACH OUT

If someone is on your mind or on your heart, it’s generally no accident. Reach out to the people in your life and show them you care. Be there for others, and repeat all of the steps above in those relationships. 😉

If you have read the About section of my blog, then you know my drive and purpose behind starting Spoonful of Kylie is to be a blessing to others and use the light God has given me. I have had a pull in my heart for a long time to start this, and since you’re reading this, that means this dream has finally come true, and that I’m pursuing what God has laid on my heart. Yay!

I am nowhere close to perfect and I will never claim to be, or claim to have all the answers, but I can promise you that I am constantly praying for the words to write and messages to share, and to have the ability to help others with what life has taught me. I pray that this blog and I can be a blessing in your life!

All the love,

Kylie
